Redefining Trace Mineral Supplementation Trace mineral nutrition has traditionally been viewed as supplying enough to prevent deficiency symptoms. Today, with ever increasing production expectations and higher genetics, simply avoiding deficiency is no longer enough. Of the various trace elements that are added to animal feeds, Cobalt, usually in the form of carbonate, continues to be widely used throughout the industry. It is applied predominantly by mixing into animal feed supplements or, in certain areas, it is sprayed directly onto the land. Shepherd Widnes, represented in the UK by their agents S+A Blackwell Ltd, are one of the world’s major manufacturers of cobalt salts. Metal Amino Acid Chelates from Thomson & Joseph Thomson & Joseph Ltd are distributors of Metal Amino Acid Chelates (MAAC), the bioavailable range of minerals from Albion Advanced Nutrition, the world’s premier supplier of chelates for humans, animals and plants.
